Another St. Patrick's Day is in the books, and this one was a very enjoyable one for me.
I started St. Patty's evening by heading up the hill to the Iron Horse Cafe in Gallitzin, to enjoy some corned beef and cabbage and Irish musical merriment by The (Irish) Rattlers. Gene and Dan Myers on guitars and vocals, Theresa Wilson on keys and Chris Myers on drums and percussion entertained a jolly and happy crowd with Irish favorites such as "Finnegan's Wake," "Black Velvet Band," "Unicorn Song," "Rattlin' Bog," "Whiskey In The Jar," and by audience request, about a half dozen renditions of "Drunken Sailor!" The Rattlers also broke out some classic rock tunes and oldies along the way, demonstrating good voices and harmonies, and a fun, playful spirit onstage. The vibe was happy, with several busloads of St. Patty's revelers arriving and departing along the way (part of a St. Patty's bar tour, cool idea!). Thanks to Lisa, Jamie and the Myers family for the hospitality, this was a great kickoff to my St. Patty's celebration!

Once again, The Rattlers.
After leaving the Iron Horse, I descended the mountain back to Altoona to finish up my St. Patty's celebrating at The Hitching Post, where Half O'Tempted was rocking and rolling. With complimentary corned beef and cabbage and Irish stew on hand (the stew was great, I had two bowls!), the Post was packed with lots of St. Patty's revelers, and the wearin' and drinkin' of the green was in full force! On stage, Half O'Tempted - singer/guitarist Ron Dalansky, bassist "Big Jim" Ricotta and drummer Steve McCulley - fired off lots of classic rock favorites from AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Eric Clapton, Black Sabbath, the Doors and more. Along the way, several guests joined Half O'Tempted onstage, including former Korruption guitarist Ryan McCulley, Generation Gap singer Brian Elliott, Denise Neely (belting out voice on AC/DC numbers) and more. It was wild, crazy and fun, just the way to slam the exclamation point on St. Patrick's Day 2006!
