As I'm sure you are aware if you've been listening...I'm not on the air this week. I'm taking my "Spring Break" about six weeks early this year, and am vacationing in Florida this week.
So far, it's been good. A little cold in this part of the world - Monday's high was 71, and on Tuesday it only reached 59 - but that still beats daytime highs in the upper 20's and nighttime lows in the teens, like is being forecasted for the Q94 listening area all this week. So I guess my timing was good to be in Florida and away from PA this week!
Wheelman Sparky the Engineer and I arrived at our destination in Zephyrhills near Tampa Sunday evening just as the Super Bowl was starting. Congrats to the Steelers on achieving ONE FOR THE THUMB!!!
All was not smooth in our homestretch run to Florida, though...Sparky's vehicle developed an engine problem that had to be repaired, so we were using a rental car today (Tuesday).
Monday was "rest" day, and we lounged around the house and recovered from our journey. Highlight of the day was heading a few blocks away to Sunny's, a barbecue establishment similar to Clem's back at home. d**n good pork barbecue! And all-you-can-eat on Mondays too!
Tuesday, we headed westward to discover the city of Tarpon Springs, northwest of Tampa. Tarpon Springs is a big area for harvesting sponges, and there are many shops selling natural sponges and sponge-related souvenirs. This town also has a large Greek community - no, not fraternities, but Greek as in from Greece! We ate lunch at a Greek diner, Mama's Greek Cuisine, and with folks sitting around us speaking in Greek, it was like we were eating in the heart of Athens! We also took a trolley bus tour of the city, only $1 fare! From Tarpon Springs, we headed down to Clearwater and checked out the beach. Unfortunately, it was cloudy, windy and 59 degrees, definitely NOT beach weather, so we didn't hang out there too long!
On the agenda for Wednesday, one of the Disney theme parks during the day, and House Of Blues at Downtown Disney at night!
