All this week on the daily 4:15 PM "Classic Rock Clip" contest, the prize is a pair of tickets to spend "An Evening with Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood from Whose Line Is It Anyway?," happening Sunday evening, October 29, at 8 PM at Altoona's Jaffa Shrine facility.
Today's correct answer was "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" by Aerosmith.
This afternoon's 5:15 PM "Lost Classic" was "Dance On A Volcano" by Genesis, from their 1976 album A Trick of the Tail. Today is Genesis guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford's 58th birthday.
I wound up having a pretty good weekend. Saturday I spent most of the day in Ebensburg, attending Potatofest. I ate some potato-based foodstuffs, and checked out some fine musical entertainment from Rosie & the Jammers, Kenton Kovich, Felix & the Hurricanes and Echoes. The weather again stank for this event with spitting rain and chilly wind; I think Potatofest gets one good sunny day every five years, and last year's was it.
Anyway, here are some interesting photos I took at Potatofest. First, after Felix & the Hurricanes performed, a loyal Johnstown area 'Hurricaniac' immortalized the group in spuds, and presented them with his special creation:
This year's Potatofest saw a few dignitaries on hand. As Felix & the Hurricanes performed, Hizonner, Governor Ed Rendell passed by to give a listen...
Felix invited the Governor to sing a song onstage if he wished, but the Governor was too busy meeting and greeting his public.
Also in attendance at this year's Potatofest was this interesting individual. I've seen this guy at a number of Cambria County festivals the past few years; the locals refer to him as the "Unicorn Man." Here he is dancing in front of Felix & the Hurricanes.
"Unicorn Man" also showed up to dance during the performance of the final band of the day up the street, Echoes.
It is unknown whether Governor Rendell met "Unicorn Man" during his visit to Potatofest. Needless to say, it was an interesting and entertaining day in Ebensburg.
On Sunday, I journeyed to Tanneryville near Johnstown to check out the St. Rochus Church Oktoberfest, happening at the church's picnic grove. This turned out to be a good time, with some great food (pork and sauerkraut dinner for just $7!), and musical entertainment by an excellent Johnstown area band, Flood City Brass. Armed with a three-piece horn section, Flood City Brass did a variety of classic and vintage rock, soul and more; everything from Motown and Blood, Sweat and Tears to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bachman Turner Overdrive, the Doobie Brothers and more.
Those events coupled with Penn State winning resulted in an all-around good weekend!
