The first official Professorial blog of 2007...Happy New Year!
This is "Pot Luck DVD" week on the daily 4:15 PM "Classic Rock Clip" contest. Winners get to choose between DVD's from U2, John Fogerty and Janis Joplin. Today's correct answer was "Running On Empty" by Jackson Browne.
Today's 5:15 PM "Lost Classic" was "Back Where It All Begins" by the Allman Brothers, from their 1994 album Where It All Begins. On this date in 1975, the Georgia State Department Of Corrections honored the Allman Brothers Band as the Outstanding Community Organization of the Year.
I hope your 2007 got off to a good start. My New Year's Eve was a good time, enjoying Hair Force One at City Limits, and afterward enjoying dogs and kraut with friends and watching the movie Easy Rider until sunrise. What a wild flick! Then after recovering and catching some Z's, I awoke during the first quarter of the Outback Bowl, and reveled as Penn State notched the 20-10 victory over Tennessee. (Keeping with tradition, though, I did go back and forth between the game and the Rose Bowl Parade.) I then watched as Michigan tanked and got their butts handed to them by USC, and then watched Boise State's incredible Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma...David sometimes does knock off Goliath! What an excellent game!
By the way, here is some excellent reading for any college football enthusiast, and especially Penn State or Miami fans; it is a commentary about the legendary 1987 Fiesta Bowl showdown between Penn State and Miami, and how it changed college football forever. Check it out:
