Wow, what a weekend!
It started with Friday night's remote broadcast from the inaugural Crow's Nest Bluegrass Festival, which took place at La Ferme Rouge near Prince Gallitzin State Park. After I did the remote from 5 to 7, I stuck around and took in the evening's musical entertainment. If you like bluegrass music, this event had some good local and regional performers. I would have stayed later, but it got chilly up in those mountains, and I had shorts on!
Then on Sunday, I headed to Johnstown to catch the last day of Thunder In The Valley. Although I was told that the crowd had tapered off a little bit from earlier in the weekend, there were still lots of motorcycles and thunder all over Johnstown. (I was told that one unofficial count had 56,000 people in attendance on Saturday night just at Greenhouse Park alone!) I caught entertainment from The British Invasion (featuring former members of The Front and Xeno, doing British rock'n'roll of the 60's and 70's - their version of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" was great!), Concrete Cowboys (doing country) and Hot Metal Bridge (doing classic rock and blues; their drummer played on Wild Cherry's hit "Play That Funky Music," and they did that song).
After Thunder In The Valley, I headed to the restored Roxbury Bandshell to take in acoustic performances by Jackie Kopco and The Brothers Kelly. This was a nice time, and I got to meet the folks in charge of the restoration. I hope to take in more performances here later this summer; they have free shows every Sunday evening. For more information, check out their website, www.roxburybandshell.com.
So after my busy weekend, it's back to the 4:15 PM "Classic Rock Clip" contest. This week's prize, in time for the 4th of July holiday next week, is an Utz Snack Pack. Today's correct answer was "Dirty Laundry" by Don Henley.
Today's 5:15 PM "Lost Classic" from the archives was "Love on the Telephone" by Foreigner, from their 1979 album Head Games. Former Foreigner keyboard man Ian McDonald celebrates his 61st birthday today.
JP GARDEN UPDATE: Work on my new garden expansion is going a bit slower than hoped; the sod was easy enough to remove, but I'm running into and removing lots of stones and rocks! I did get my last tomato plants into the ground on Saturday, and still have some pepper plants, squash, lima beans, corn and popcorn to plant. Yeah, I know it might be too late for the corn, but I'm going to try a short season variety and hope I have enough warm weather to get something from it. It looks like I'll be able to harvest my first lettuce by week's end. Pictures soon to come, after everything is planted!
