All this week on the daily 4:10 PM "Classic Rock Clip" contest, our prize is a WWE John Cena "Live Fast, Fight Hard" T-shirt. Today's correct answer was "Ramblin' Man" by the Allman Brothers Band.
Today's 5:15 PM "Classic Rock Clip" was "Planet of Women" by ZZ Top, from their 1985 album Afterburner. It was on this date in 1984 that ZZ Top received 131,384 votes in a Saturday Night Live phone-in Democratic candidate poll. Given how topsy-turvy this year's Presidential campaign is looking so far, that number of votes this year could win the Texas trio the nomination! ZZ Top for President - I guess that would be the Presidency by committee...
Although my NFL season ended last weekend when the Steelers bowed out of the playoffs, I'm still paying a little bit of attention to who's left. I was glad to see Green Bay advance, and the Cowboys get bounced. I also liked seeing San Diego take down the favored Colts, although I don't think the banged-up Chargers will have enough left in the tank to take down New England in the AFC Championship Game. As far as that goes, I think the Chargers will give the Patriots a stiffer test than either Green Bay or the Giants will give them in the Super Bowl. The Giants left it all on the field for that last game of the regular season and couldn't do it, so I doubt they'll have figured out the Patriots any better by the time the Super Bowl rolls around, should they beat Green Bay.
This is the time of the year when I don't follow sports all that closely. I'll pay some attention to the Penguins, who have been doing well of late. I'll follow the Penn State men's basketball team, at least as long as they remain competitive in the Big Ten and have a shot at postseason play. I have no rooting interest in the NBA and could care less what happens there. I'll watch the Daytona 500 in February, but that's about the extent of my NASCAR interest any more. So pretty much, I'll only sparingly follow the sports scene until baseball season gets under way, and then see if the new Pirates regime can turn it around.
