All this week on the 4:10 PM "Classic Rock Clip" contest, we are giving away pairs of tickets to see Rush in concert at Hershey Park Stadium on July 17 before they go on sale. All ticket winners will then be forwarded into a national drawing for a trip to Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp in Los Angeles. Today's correct answer was "Sleeping Bag" by ZZ Top.
Today's 5:15 PM "Lost Classic" from the back of the rack was "Hello Hurray" by Alice Cooper, from his 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies. Today is Alice Cooper's 60th birthday; he was born Vincent Furnier on this date in 1948.
Of course, if you watched last night's Super Bowl, you saw Alice almost get nailed by a car in one of the better commercials that aired during this year's game. What a game! Although I officially predicted on Friday that New England would win, I'm glad that the Giants pulled the upset, and I'm also glad that the game was decided on the field, and not in the replay booth. And did you see Bill Belichick's interview after the game? He looked like he was going to explode! I especially liked when the interviewer closed the discussion by saying "Congratulations on a great season," and it was all Belichick could do to restrain himself from blowing up with a bunch of expletives on camera - classic!
I liked Tom Petty's halftime performance, and thought he and the Heartbreakers sounded good. I did, however, think that the hired "fans" rushing up to the stage was cheeseville.
As for the commercials, I thought this year's crop was weak overall, but there were a few I liked, such as the FedEx commercial with the giant carrier pigeons, the E-Trade commercial with the baby puking on the keyboard, the car commercial (I forget which car) where the driver avoids hitting the squirrel and Alice Cooper, but has to think twice before dodging Richard Simmons; and the Budweiser and Bud Light commercials were all pretty good.
Alas, football is gone for another six months. Sports will pretty much take the back seat in my life for a while, except for the Penguins. Go Pens!
