In Local Music News…
The band One Gun Salute has announced that they are parting ways. The parting is on friendly terms, as the band members move on to new projects. Guitarist Scott Bush has joined on with bass player Keith Reyn’s emerging band project, Condemned Existence; while singer Dave Moses will concentrate on his recording studio project.
Drummer Rob Bonsell is departing from both One Gun Salute and a brief stint in Hair Force One, to join up with a touring band situation in the Las Vegas/Lake Tahoe/Reno area. Rob’s new gig will be a full-time situation, as his new band tours casinos and resorts. We at the “Backyard Rocker” wish Rob the best of luck and success with his new endeavor.
Rob’s departure leaves Hair Force One in search of a new drummer. Any drummers interested in looking into the Hair Force One opening can visit the group’s website, www.hf1rocks.com.
Drummer Kyle Taylor is leaving Harrisburg rock band Condition K. His final show with the group was this past Saturday night.
The second John Baker memorial benefit concert has been announced. The show, called “JB Vava Palooza,” will take place on Sunday, April 30, at Electric Avenue in Houtzdale. The show will begin at 1 PM, and feature performances from the Ozone Rangers, Serious Jones, Bucket, Chaos, Loudmouth, Face Down, Wide Open, Sherri Lender, and a Tugger tribute. There will be food and prizes available. Donation will be $10, with the money going towards John Baker’s funeral expenses. John, a popular area musician, passed away suddenly on January 31 from an apparent heart attack at the age of 44.
Local music organization Get Closer To The Music has announced their third annual Music Festival. The event will take place on Saturday, April 29, from 11 AM to 5 PM at the Booker T. Washington Recreation Center in Altoona. The event will feature music displays and tables, an instrument “petting zoo,” music instructors, games, prizes, food and refreshments, and performances from Felix and the Hurricanes, Rusty Gun Revival, .00 Buck and Generation Gap. Admission to the event is free.
And lastly, Johnstown-based rockers Inside Out have reversed their decision from January and are continuing on. Singer/guitarist Tim Frick has decided to remain in the area for the time being, and has reformed the group with bassist Larry Phillip and drummer Mark Gindlesperger.
