Some benefit shows to talk about…The third annual Jeff Wallack Memorial Benefit show will happen on Saturday night, March 31st at Aldo’s in Altoona. The show will feature performances from The Flame Sky, Half Tempted, a jam session and more.
Another benefit at Aldo’s will take place on Friday evening, April 6th. The Callum Robbins Benefit concert will help out young Callum Robbins, the son of J. Robbins, a friend of several area musicians who produced Edison’s album back in the 90’s. Young Callum suffers from a genetic motor neuron disease called Type 1 SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy, which affects the brain's ability to communicate with the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, breathing, and swallowing. The show will start at 10 PM, and feature performances from former Edison singer Ryan Tyler’s current band, The Lowercase Thieves, along with Shades of June, The Flame Sky, Divine Everlasting. Donation at the door will be $5.

On Sunday, March 18, from 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM, the Bottleworks Ethnic Arts Center in Johnstown will host a workshop for serious music writers by Master Songsmith, Paul Berkobin. The goal of the session is to further develop songwriting skills within a supportive environment. Those attending are encouraged to bring their instruments. A piano is on site at the Center. The fee for the workshop is free to Songworks members and $50 for non-memebers. Paul Berkobin will then present a concert next Sunday evening at 6:30 PM following the workshop. The event is made possible by a grant from the Community Foundation for the Alleghenies. Call the Center at (814) 536-5399 for information and registration.
