A special benefit concert to remember a fallen area musician is taking place next month. The Ox Fest Benefit will be taking place on Saturday, June 16 at the Pleasant Gap Grounds in Pleasant Gap, to benefit Jeremy and Killian Gingrich, the sons of area musician Michael Gingrich. Michael, the singer for the group Chaos Method, lost his life in an auto accident in Centre County last August. The concert will begin at 11 AM, and will feature performances from The Chaos Method, the FatMan Band, Nathaniel HoHo, Fever Sunday Mourning, 69 Leaf Clover, The Deuces, Midnight Love Ensemble, Lowjack, The Flame Sky, also Red 13 from New Jersey , RoseMatter from York, and Giving Chase from Philadelphia. Tickets are $17 for single admission, or $30 per couple, and can be obtained at City Lights Records in State College and Cool Beans Coffee and Tea in Bellefonte.
UUU guitar player Doug Mackie is spearheading a new effort to help out injured American soldiers. Doug is in the process of collecting books, software, and CD’s from local and regional bands and musicians to be given to soldiers hospitalized at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC. The books and other items will provide a pastime for soldiers recovering from injuries suffered while serving their country. Bands, musicians or other individuals interested in helping with this effort can contact Doug through his email address, INGREEVOX@aol.com.
Altoona heavy rockers Inversion have revised their line-up and changed their name. The new name is SamarA, and the new lineup includes Carl on vocals, Rug and Ryan on guitars, Mike on bass and Shaun on drums.
A change in bass players for the western Pennsylvania-based band Somerhill. Greg Gillen has departed the group, and replacing him is former Third Standard bassist Andy Heinze. Somerhill will be guests on Q94’s “Backyard Rocker” on June 3.
Altoona punk-metal veterans Chapter 5 release their long-awaited new CD next weekend. The new album is called A Great Day to Die, and is being issued through Altoona-based indie label Heartless Mockery Records. The official CD release party will be this coming Friday, May 18, at Aldo’s in Juniata, and will feature performances from Chapter 5, Suicide Switch, Choking Faith and Vengeance.
