In Local Music News…
The Altoona City Council this past week passed a noise ordinance. The ordinance will allow businesses to have music outside unless there are major complaints from residents. In the past, businesses had to go through the liquor control board with outdoor music requests. This noise ordinance puts the issue in the hands of the city and actually cuts some red tape. City codes officers will handle complaints during the day, city police will take over at night. City council sees this as a tool to help promote growth in the struggling downtown area. The ordinance would also protect some of the outdoor concert events that are taking place in downtown Altoona this summer.
Vs. the Earth is close to completion of their new CD. The forthcoming disc will be called The Initiative, and the group is expecting to release the disc to Altoona area fans during their next visit to Altoona’s 4D’s Lounge on Friday, July 13.
Pittsburgh classic metal rockers Icarus Witch are gearing up to release their brand new album. The album will be called Songs for the Lost, and will be issued through Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records on September 11. A famous guest will appear on the album, as former Rainbow and Yngwie Malmsteen frontman Joe Lynn Turner will sing along with the band on an update of Def Leppard’s “Mirror Mirror.”
Some band personnel moves to pass along…Emily’s Toybox has a new bass player, as former Scream drummer and Pipedown bassist Greg Reigle replaces Matt Kyle in the line-up.
And local classic rockers The Red Arrow have a new bass player as well, as former Half Tempted bassist “Big” Jim Ricotta replaces Larry Smelley, who departed the group to pursue other interests.
