The annual “End Of Summer Jam” benefit concert has run into a potential problem. According to concert organizer Mickey Luckenbaugh, the Cresson Sportsmen’s Club has indicated that they are having doubts about hosting this year’s event. Entering its 17th year, the “End Of Summer Jam” benefit usually features two days of live area bands, plus overnight camping, with proceeds going to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. According to Mickey, the concert and its future will be discussed at the next Cresson Sportsmen’s Club monthly meeting, scheduled for Tuesday evening, July 17 at 7 PM at the Sportsmen’s Club.
The dates for the 12th annual Millennium Music Conference have been announced. The event will take place from February 14 through 17 of next year at the Radisson Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill outside of Harrisburg. The conference will feature 3 days of music business keynotes, panels, clinics, workshops, mentoring and a trade show, plus four nights ights of showcasing bands and artists at 30 venues in the Harrisburg area. The deadline for performers to submit applications to showcase at Millennium will be November 16. For more information about the conference, visit the website www.mmc12.com.
In band personnel news, the Altoona-based classic rock band Square One has a new bass player, as Bill Smith has replaced Bill Hunter in the line-up. Square One performed at this past Wednesday’s 4th of July celebration at Altoona’s Lakemont Park.
Bassist Joey G has announced that he is leaving the Harrisburg-based party band Stomp’d, citing personal reasons.
While on the topic of Stomp’d, congratulations to Stomp’d lead singer Amy Jo Hurricane and guitarist Willy G, the proud parents of a baby girl; Savannah Sky Hurricane was born this past 4th of July Wednesday morning.
Roadkill is stepping away from area stages for the rest of the summer, to complete work on their next CD. The group plans to release the disc in September, and will be returning to action on area stages then.
