It's a well-known fact that I enjoy my job of checking out and writing about live bands. But there are some nights where I really, really, REALLY, REALLY enjoy this job!
Case in point, last Saturday night, July 21, when I headed to Rumors in Enola (near Harrisburg) to see Brooklyn-based Witches In Bikinis. You may recall my raving about this band at the Millennium Music Conference back in February. Well, these gals (and guys; yes, there is a band playing behind them) returned to Pennsylvania, and I had to go have myself another look.
Witches In Bikinis deliver as the name advertises: six drop-dead gorgeous ladies decked out in bikinis and witches outfits, with a four-piece band playing behind them. Beyond the obvious eye-candy, though, these ladies do a singing and dance presentation, with original songs and little routines that they do with each number. Their music and show suggests a blend of 60's beach movies, 60's girl groups, the B-52's, the Rockettes and the Rocky Horror Show! They also have some audience-participation portions of the show where they venture out into the crowd or bring audience members on stage.
Opening and closing the night was another group, Harrisburg's 7th Layer, doing urban-styled sounds. These guys were entertaining, with creative theatrics and costuming, and they had people dancing along with them in the latter stages of the night.
Anyway, here's a video clip of one of Witches In Bikinis' songs. Q94 is not responsible for computer keyboards damaged by drooling triggered by this video clip:

And, for your enjoyment, some pictures from the show:
For your enjoyment, Witches In Bikinis.
For the record, I was trying to take pictures of the band, but the ladies in the bikinis kept getting in the way...
The Witches get some audience members onstage to howl like chimpanzees.
Definitely not your ordinary coven of witches...
More Witches In Bikinis...
More craziness with Witches In Bikinis.
Yes, they actually do don witches outfits, too.
A bewitching sight...
Two high-stepping witches...
More Witches In freaking Bikinis!
When the ladies learned that I wanted to photograph the band, they all voluntarily laid down on the stage.
One more time, Witches In Bikinis!
Performing sets to open and close the night (Witches In Bikinis played the middle two sets), Harrisburg's 7th Layer.
By the end of the night, it was a full-scale dance party with 7th Layer, including several Witches In Bikinis on the dance floor.
