In Local Music News...
Some band personnel moves to report this week...First, Flight 19 has announced the addition of a keyboard player to their line-up, and a keyboard vet who has been missing from area stages for a number of years. Phil Steele, who previously has graced area stages playing keys with The Edge, Five Nations and Bottoms Up, expands Flight 19 into a six-piece group, and will expand the range of "the Party Plane's" style and sound.
Area classic rockers Half Tempted will have a new but familiar face behind their drum kit for the next few weeks. Clint Carothers, who has played drums for The Front, Ricky Lee and other area bands, will provide the beat for Half Tempted while the group's drummer, Steve McCulley, continues to recover from back surgery.
Johnstown/Indiana-based modern rockers Shades Of June are in search of a new lead singer, as Jess Maguire is departing the group due to career reasons.
The Huntingdon County-based band Unit 509 is reforming, and is in search of a new drummer. The group will again feature Kara Kise on lead vocals and guitar, Bob Kise on guitar, and Dave Arentz on bass. Any interested drummers who would like to provide the beat for Unit 509 can contact the group through their link on Rockpage.net.
Remember, this coming Saturday night at City Limits in Altoona, it's the annual Toys for Tots benefit concert, sponsored by City Limits, Pennsylvania Musician Magazine and Q94. The show starts at 8:30 PM, and will feature performances from Spirit Lost, Felix & the Hurricanes, Tie Down, Slacker Theory and Nyne. The donation at the door is either a $10 cash donation or a new, unopened toy of equal or greater value. All proceeds go to the U.S. Marine Corps' Toys for Tots program, to benefit needy area families this upcoming holiday season.
